Video: Store Clerk Fights Back Against Robbery Suspect

HENDERSONVILLE, SC – It’s lights out for an armed robbery suspect who tried to hold up a business.

The masked man attempted to stick up an employee at the We Buy Gold store on Spartanburg Highway.

But Derek Mothershead turned the tables on the 25-year-old Mostafa Hendi and knocked him unconscious.

Store surveillance video shows Mothershead holding Hendi down as he called the police.

“He came through the door..hoodie on his head..said ‘gimme the money..gimme the money…I threw my hands up..said take the money if you want it,” said Mothershead. “Instead of putting it in the bag..I handed it to him..and hit him.”

Store manager Juaz Crus says he thinks Hendi got the message.

“If he wants money, get a job..work like everybody else in this world,” said Mothershead.

Cruz said, “We ain’t gonna let it slide..especially after we’ve seen the first video…Merry Christmas Mostafa Hendi.”

Hendi was charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and is being held on $100,000 bond.

Robbery Gone Wrong

Police mugshot of Anthony Miranda, an alleged robber who’s latest non-victim is an unidentified mixed martial arts fighter who competes in the UFC.

An alleged robber in Chicago picked the wrong man to mess with.

Anthony Miranda, 24, attempted a robbery and carjacking, police said, but his would-be patsy was a 33-year-old mixed martial artist who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championships. The tables were turned rather quickly, according to the Chicago Tribune.

According to police, the “victim” said Miranda approached his car near Kenneth Ave. and 55th St. and asked for a light for a cigarette. When the man, who did not want to be identified, said he didn’t have a light Miranda pulled a gun, demanded valuables and told the driver to get out of the car, police told the Tribune.

What happened next is probably what you would expect when someone tries to rob an MMA fighter: a one-sided struggle.

Instead of cash and valuables, Miranda came away with bruises all over his face, a bullet in his ankle after his gun discharged during the fight and a mugshot for the ages.

The UFC fighter was able to hold Miranda on the ground until police arrived.

Miranda got a trip to the hospital and is being held on $350,000 bail.

According to the Tribune, Miranda is on parole and has served time for multiple burglaries. He was released from prison in March 2010.
